Your bi-annual oral exam and teeth cleaning is the cornerstone of any preventive dentistry program. It gives your doctor the opportunity to check your mouth for signs of oral health issues ranging from tooth decay and gum disease to teeth grinding, oral cancer, and much more.
During these appointments, our dentists will check your mouth to ensure you’re free from disease, and our hygienists will clean, buff, and polish your teeth. Your smile will look bright and beautiful, and we’ll remove the plaque and tartar that can contribute to oral health issues, bad breath, and more.
If you’re overdue for a routine cleaning and exam, the team at Arrowhead Family Dentistry is here to help. Contact us now to get started and schedule an appointment with our team.
Fluoride treatments are a powerful tool for fighting back against tooth decay. This is because fluoride has the unique ability to remineralize teeth. By attracting minerals like phosphates and calcium, fluoride treatments strengthen the teeth and can even help reverse the first stage of tooth decay, which is known as a “soft spot.”
During a fluoride treatment, a fluoride-rich liquid will be painted onto your teeth after a routine dental cleaning. This liquid is left in place for a few minutes, then rinsed away. The high fluoride content helps strengthen your teeth. This treatment is often recommended for children who are highly prone to cavities, but can also be used for adults.
Regular cleanings are important, but only part of the puzzle when it comes to preventing cavities and keeping your mouth healthy. Proper at-home care is highly important, too.
First and foremost, brush at least twice per day for two minutes and floss once per day. Ideally, you should brush in the morning and at night, before you go to bed.
It is also important to avoid eating too many sugary drinks and snacks. When you do eat sugary foods, you should do so in one sitting (as opposed to snacking all day), then rinse your mouth and brush afterward. This prevents the sugars from staying in your mouth for a long time, which helps prevent cavities.
