What Counts As

A Dental Emergency?

The most obvious category of dental emergencies are related to oral trauma. A traumatic oral injury can result in cracked, damaged, broken, loose or even knocked-out teeth, and it’s important to get help for these issues immediately.

However, there are many other issues that also count as an emergency, such as a severe toothache, a pulled-out or damaged piece of dental work, or even a piece of food or object lodged between your teeth that you can’t get out on your own.

We define a dental emergency as any issue that’s causing you serious pain, discomfort or bleeding, and that you cannot treat on your own. If your condition fits those criteria, come into our office for help immediately.

What Should I Do

If My Tooth Is Knocked Out?

Contact Arrowhead Family Dentistry to let us know that you are coming in. Your tooth needs to be replaced within one hour (two hours maximum) for optimal results.

Recover your tooth by grasping it by the crown (top). Avoid touching the root (bottom) of the tooth, as it is very delicate. If necessary, you can rinse the tooth with warm water to clean it. Then, replace it in the socket, if possible, or put it into a small bag of cold milk.

As soon as you have recovered your tooth, come to our office. If you see us within 1-2 hours, we will be able to splint your tooth, and it’s highly likely that we will be able to save it.

Restoring Damaged Teeth

With Veneers

For minor tooth damage like chipping from an oral injury, veneers are often the best way to restore your smile. Veneers are strong, porcelain dental prostheses, which fit over your natural teeth and replace the front chewing surface. At our office, we specialize in restoring both the function of your bite and the beauty of your smile after a dental emergency.
